HOW TO RECYCLE
(Updated Oct. 15, 2006)

Welcome to a new age of recycling in Dallas!  The City of Dallas is now distributed blue recycling bins free to all customers.  Just call 311 to get yours.

Recycling is now easier than ever in Dallas.  The biggest change is that items no longer have to be separated.  Just toss your paper, plastics, glass, and cans into a blue or clear plastic bag and place it out with your garbage on your recycling day.  With the introduction of the blue bin, you can leave the bags behind.

If you've already got a city-issued garbage bin, you can sign-up at www.dallascityhall.com or call 311 for a FREE recycling bin.  Your recycling will be picked up every other week, and the schedule will be on the top your bin.

If you're trash is picked up manually (that is, they don't pick it up with the claws on the front of the truck), then you aren't eligible for a bin.  This is usually in areas where they pick up in the alley and the alley is too narrow for the wide garbage trucks.  You will keep using blue bags available at libraries and rec centers for free.  Your recycling will continue to be picked up once a week.

To find your recycling day, go to http://maps.dallascityhall.com/, enter your address, and look under "Sanitation Information" on the right hand side.

For more information call (214) 670-4475.

RECYCLING FOR APARTMENTS
Dallas' current recycling program is not available for apartment and condo residents.  Since 60% of Dallas residents live in apartments, it is important that we find a way to expand the program to include them.  I have met with the head of our Sanitation Department and asked her to explore ways to bring our recycling program to residents living in multi-family units.  She is going to look at programs in other cities and present her findings to the Council.  I'll keep you updated on our progress.

PAPER RECYCLING IGLOOS
Although not as convenient as curb-side recycling pick up, you can also take your paper recycling to one of many locations across Dallas.  Check out the container locator for a location near you.

ALUMINUM/GLASS/PLASTIC RECYCLING IGLOOS
The City also has igloos across Dallas for aluminum, glass, and/or plastic.  Check out the list of locations.
