I’ve been humbled by the outpouring of support for my campaign.  From our wonderful volunteers who made phone calls night after night, walked door to door day after day, and greeted voters at the polls for the last two weeks (and you’ve got the sunburns to prove it!) — to the hundreds of people who endorsed me, put up yard signs, and made financial contributions — THANK YOU.  Your hard work and steadfast support paid off and I am deeply appreciative.

My campaign team was amazing and a pleasure to work with.  Thank you, Michelle, Murray, James, Eric, and Anna — you guys worked incredibly hard and you’re the best!

Known to many as probably the smartest member of the city council, she has continued to ask the right questions and taken stands where others were too nervous or watching the polling stats to do so.

…In the final analysis, we need more leaders in city hall like Angela Hunt who are willing to ask the hard, intelligent questions and not to be afraid of losing votes from the residents or financial support from those outside of their districts.

The endorsement followed a lengthy (nearly two-hour), in-depth interview with the editorial board.  The board interviewed all of the candidates together and peppered us with questions ranging from economic development to zoning to education.

The board concluded: “The challengers pale next to Hunt in their level of civic involvement, not to mention on their knowledge of zoning, redistricting and the major factors contributing to Dallas’ north-south gap. Well-rehearsed answers, chock-full of jargon and catch phrases, did nothing to persuade us that they would provide more effective leadership than Hunt.”

“There are times when this newspaper openly clashes with her point of view, but we always can rely on her to produce a well-researched and passionate defense of whatever stance she takes. The dynamic 39-year-old knows her stuff. And that’s a top reason why she deserves re-election to the District 14 seat….Hunt’s willingness to take on big challenges is an asset for her constituents and the city at large. Voters should return her for another term.”

In addition to more than 300 endorsements from neighborhood leaders across District 14, I am proud to share with you that I have just received FOUR major endorsements from respected Dallas organizations: the Dallas Police Association, Dallas Fire Fighters Association, MetroTex Association of Realtors, and the Dallas AFL-CIO.

Making our neighborhoods safer has been a priority of mine since I took office, so I am deeply honored that my commitment to public safety has earned me the endorsement of both the Police and Fire Associations. “As a City Councilmember, Angela has worked with law enforcement and community leaders to help us reduce crime 30% since she took office,” said Glenn White, President of the Dallas Police Association.  “Her experience, integrity, and commitment to her community is unquestioned.”

Peter Urrutia of MetroTex Realtors cited my commitment to District 14 neighborhoods: “Angela has proven time and again she is not only committed to representing neighborhoods, but improving them, too.  No matter the street, no matter the issue, Angela tries to make District 14 better, block by block. Together, we’ve been able to improve neighborhoods throughout District 14, from revitalizing Downtown and bringing renewed vibrancy to Uptown and Oak Lawn, to protecting East Dallas neighborhoods with conservation and historic districts, to implementing a $500 million renovation plan at Love Field Airport.

We’ve made our city safer, adding over 600 police officers to our streets and bringing crime down to levels not seen since the 1960s.  And most importantly, we’ve brought an independent voice to Dallas City Hall, asking the tough questions and demanding accountability.

But there is still much to be done, and that’s why I am seeking re-election to the Dallas City Council.
